Our statement of purpose.
Every child deserves a place to play, and every parent deserves a place to belong.
Sport for SEN creates inclusive sporting opportunities for children with special educational needs, and gives their parents the respite, connection and support they deserve.
Too many children are left on the sidelines.
For our children
Mainstream sports clubs and classes, however well meaning, are rarely built with SEN children in mind. Many want to take part but simply can’t.
As a result, they miss out on the physical development, regulation and motor skills that sport provides, and on the friendships and social confidence other children build outside school. Too many spend their free time within the four walls of their home.
For their parents
Parents are often just as isolated. Caring for a child with complex needs can leave little time, energy or opportunity for anything else, and many families have no extended network able to step in.
Yet the SEN parent community is large. What is missing is something that brings it together.
Some parents go years without a single break.
What we will do.
Everything we do is built around the whole family: a place for the child to play, and a place for the parent to breathe.
Inclusive sports clubs for SEN children
Regular sessions in high-quality facilities, led by experienced facilitators, where every child is welcome, supported and able to take part at their own pace.
Respite and connection for parents
While their children play, parents get time for themselves and the chance to meet others who truly understand.
Mums’ and dads’ support groups
Dedicated groups offering a safe space to share the experiences and worries that so often go unspoken, alongside practical help.
We exist to connect the pieces.
SEN parents are some of the most isolated people in our society. Thousands of families are living parallel lives, a few streets apart, each carrying the same weight alone. Sport for SEN brings children onto the pitch and parents into a community, connecting every piece so nobody has to do this by themselves.
Where we start.
Our first clubs will run in the Wigan and Leigh area. Our long-term ambition is for every SEN child and parent in the country to have a Sport for SEN club within reach.
Wigan
Where our first clubs will open their doors.
Leigh
Growing alongside Wigan, so families in both towns are connected.
The whole country
A Sport for SEN club within reach of every SEN child and parent.
Come and join us.
If this is the place you or your child have been looking for, or you would like to help us build it, we would love to hear from you.
